Why You Should See (500) Days of Summer
Last night Apryl (my wife) and I decided we needed to see (500) Days of Summer and we needed to see it now. We rushed over to the only movie theatre playing the movie after a delicious dinner at the Hula Hut. I’ll never fully understand why so many great movies don’t get played at major movie theaters. I’m sure it has everything to do about money, but seeing that Harry Potter was on 4 screens and Ice Age was on 3, with this movie nowhere in sight made me pretty irritated.
Anyways, back to the movie. The overall direction of this movie was unique and refreshing. As you might assume, the movie details the 500 days Tom Hansen (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is spent falling in love/in love with Summer Finn (played by Zooey Deschanel). Now before you go rolling your eyes thinking this is just the same old love story, let me assure you that it is anything but.
The movie goes back and forth showing how their relationship began and how it ended. One would think that jumping around the story like that would make things confusing, but the director was able to make you feel the joy and happiness they had and also the pain and sadness. The movie is filled with great humor and fantastic dialogue that keep you watching with a smile on your face (except during those sad parts, of course).
I don’t want to give too much of the movie away, but if you are looking to see a refreshing and original movie – (500) Days of Summer is exactly what you are looking for. And no, I don’t think the 8.5/10 IMDB movie rating it has so far is too high.
