Wednesday MP3 Six Pack – Dec. 16th ed.

Each Wednesday I’ll be bringing you six songs you need to go out and download now! Have a recommendation for the Tipping Glass community? Leave a comment and we might feature it in next week’s six pack!

This week we’re focusing on kick-ass 90’s music!

1. Rammstein – Du Hast

This song takes me back. All the way back to middle school. I still love how many people know every word to this song without being able to speak a lick of German. This song became super trendy, but how can you not love it? Rammstein is a pretty hardcore band. I wish I could have seen them on the Family Values Tour. Rammstein - The Matrix (Music from the Motion Picture) - Du Hast

2. Fiona Apple – Criminal

Why is this song so awesome? Because it introduced me to Fiona Apple. I love her music. It is so refreshing and original. I never understood how she fell of the map for so many people, but I know you all once rocked out to this kick-ass jam. Fiona Apple - Tidal - Criminal

3. Radiohead – High & Dry

This is easily my favorite Radiohead song. The lyrics and the vocals to this song are simply amazing. You almost immediately fall into a trance when this song starts out. Such a beautiful song that I never get sick of. Radiohead - The Best of Radiohead (Special Edition) - High and Dry

4. Alice in Chains – Man in the Box

Alice in Chain’s MTV Unplugged album is one of my favorite albums of all time. They’ve recently made somewhat of a comeback and are touring again, but I’ll always think back to that performance and their classic songs. It was really hard to choose which to feature in this lineup. Perhaps we should do a Six Pack of only Alice in Chain songs. Alice In Chains - Greatest Hits - Man In the Box

5. Rage Against the Machine – Guerilla Radio

You can’t talk about the 90’s without mentioning Rage Against the Machine. Talk about a trendy band to like. Between them and the Dave Matthews Band it was almost a guarantee that someone had at least one album from them. This song is still regularly played on all rock stations, and rightly so. Because it kicks ass. Rage Against the Machine - Body of War - Songs That Inspired an Iraq War Veteran (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) - Guerilla Radio

6. Cake – Never There

And last, and certainly not least, we come to Cake. Cake’s music was not only extremely catchy, but most of the time the lyrics were hilarious. I always loved his videos, too. I think what makes Cake’s music stick out so much is how unique it is. There aren’t very many artists that approach music the way that he does. Cake - Prolonging the Magic (Deluxe Version) - Never There

Over the next few weeks we’ll be compiling our favorite 90’s songs, help us out by leaving a comment with your favorite 90’s tracks.

Du Hast is classic – what a fantastic song. I wonder what ever happened to that band? Any new songs?

    Man, what a great tune.

You HAVE to include Pearl Jam in any 90s playlist.

Also interesting with the Du Hast song is that its actually a double entendre in German since that can mean YOU HATE or YOU HAVE. So in du has(s)t mich, it can be “you have me” or “you hate me”.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize that. I always thought it was “hate”. That really does make the song that much cooler. Did they ever come out and say which way they meant it?

Achtung Baby is not only the best album of the 90s, but probably the best of all-time. So just pick any song from there. “One” if you’re into the emotional/traditional side, or maybe “The Fly” or “Until the End of the World” if you prefer it a little louder. U2 FTW. :-)

I think “Until the End of the World” is definitely my favorite off that album. Such a great album!

Actually, it is you HATE me. They released the song in English and those are the lyrics. It’s definitely better in German though.
