The Top Ten Trends for Spring/Summer 2010
Although the weather is still dreadful in most parts of the world, the fashion-conscious are already looking forward to what will be in style as soon as the sun comes out. In my opinion, the top ten trends for the Spring and Summer of 2010 are as follows:
1. One-shoulder tops- Spaghetti straps are so last year! One-shoulder tops and dresses are so in! The one-shoulder look has been all over the red carpet during awards season this year. It will continue to be fresh throughout the summer months. Think pairing a black one-shoulder top with white denim. It is a casual, yet dressy look that is easy for most women to wear.
2. Light wash denim- After years of dark denim reigning, light wash denim is having its day. Believe me, I thought I retired light denim shirts back in the early 90’s! The best way to wear light denim is to pair a fitted light denim button down with a flirty skirt. Denim shirts looks the best when paired with feminine materials on the bottom like a cotton or tulle skirt (for those risk-taking fashionistas!)
3.Exposed Zippers- Exposed zippers were big for the fall and they will continue to be everywhere during the Spring/Summer. Exposed zippers look the best on a dress or top that is one color so the zipper is the focal point. They will also be present on rompers (another hot trend for the summer).
4.Sequins- Thankfully, the sequin trend is not going anywhere! This is one of my favorite trends and I like how sequins are no longer for just going out at night. Casual tees with sequin pockets on the front or a sequin blazer over a casual top and distressed jeans are the perfect ways to ace this trend without going overboard.
5.Bright Colors like Pink, Orange, Yellow- Although black will always be in style, look for bright colors to make make your summer wardrobe pop! The hottest colors of the season are bright pink, orange, and yellow. If you are too shy to wear something so vivid, then try wearing a neutral piece with a hint of those bright colors. For example, pair a nude or black skirt with a bright pink top.
6.Tribal and Abstract Prints- Tribal and abstract prints are huge during the hot months! The more intense and dynamic the print, the better! These prints look the best when you let one printed piece stand alone. Pair with lots of gold jewelry and you have mastered the look!
7.Statement Jewelry- Just like in the fall, statement jewelry is hot! Retire your pearls and try some statement earrings or a necklace! The best thing about jewelry and this trend specifically is that it gives a woman the chance to create her own look. Stack three different cuffs, or wear a pair of coral drop earrings with a long necklace for a unique take on the trend.
8.Sheer Blouses and Dresses- Sheer cut-outs on blouses and dresses are in style for the Spring/Summer. A great way to try this trend is to wear a top with sheer sleeves and a sheer neckline. Be careful not to show too much skin!
9.Feminine Details like Lace and Bows- Some trends don’t make it past a season, but lace and bows are back from the 80’s! Lace skirts and dresses in soft colors like pink and off-white will be hot for the spring months. Bows look fashion-forward on the front of dresses, but not so hot on the back. Unless you really want to bring back the 80’s, stick with a more feminine approach to rocking this trend.
10.Metallic Goddess Dress- Solid metallic dresses are gorgeous when you don’t have to worry about wearing a coat! Gold, silver, and gunmetal are the most common metallics used for these dresses, but any variation works. Keep your accessories and shoes simple when wearing this trend. The dress can stand alone!
