MyFamily.com

Everyone on my mom’s side of the family pretty much all live in Pittsburgh.  In my husband’s family, mostly everyone lives in Baltimore.  On my dad’s side – everyone is very spread out.  When it comes to extended family, however, I know those on my dad’s side the best.  Why?  The internet.

Years ago my Uncle started a website called, “The Martin-Brindley Intercontinental Roundup.”  I’m on the Martin side of things.  Many people on both the Martin and Brindley side have become very involved in the site.  I have had discussions with and gotten to know relatives who I would not have any relationship with otherwise.  Jason and I even stayed at the house of a shirt-tail relative in September!

Recently MyFamily upgraded and launched a new site.  It is clear to me that they are trying to mimic Facebook and other social networking sites in this new launch, and there are some really great things about it.  But there are also things that I miss – like filing discussions in different areas, such as News, recipes, reviews and polls.  I do like that they now take all the thousands of pictures we’ve posted over the years and put them in a slide show.

Overall, MyFamily is a great site for keeping in touch with family.  Family members who don’t want to use Facebook and you don’t have enough of a relationship to call all the time can join and something new can begin!
