Wedding Tips – The Hall
You picture it, you are on the dance floor for your first dance as man and wife. Everyone looks on, and as you look around the room the setting is perfect. The tables are beautiful, and you chose the perfect hall to celebrate the reception for your wedding.
But first you have to find that hall, and that can be easier said than done. Every city has dozens and dozens of them out there, but how do you find the right one?
If you have an unlimited budget, you are will easily find some of the most beautiful – and expensive sites. But those who have an unlimited budget likely also have a wedding planner and probably aren’t reading this.
So, for those of you on a limited budget, here are some ways to find the right hall. Search all over the internet. And be creative. I found several photographer and videographer websites which listed the places which they had worked. So I looked those up. I found many that I didn’t already know about. Talk to friends, see where they may have been to weddings. Talk to any vendors you may have already booked – your DJ and Photographer would surely have some good suggestions. If you’re planning a wedding in Pittsburgh, let me know – I have a long list I’ll post sometime soon!
Decide what is important to you. For me, it was high ceilings. For some, it may be a wow factor out front. For others, it may be large enough to big your big fat Greek wedding. Decide on these things ahead of time, but be willing to admit that if your budget is small, you may have to give in on some of these things.
The biggest expense with a wedding is the food and beverage. If you find a place that has a minimal rental fee, and will let you bring in any caterer and your own alcohol, you will save a lot of money. A hall which only offers one caterer and does the beverages themselves will almost always be more expensive. On the other hand, this type of one stop shop is very convenient, so, once again, you have to decide what is important.
Once you have found the perfect hall, make sure you get everything in writing. You wouldn’t want to get to a month prior to the wedding and find out that they’ve raised their rates or your date was bumped for a larger wedding. Without a contract, you have no guarantees!
