Week 13 NFL Preview Review
Each Monday, I will review the preview I made before the weekend’s games. I will own up to any bad predictions, and brag about my foresight, in hindsight.
Tennessee Titans (5-7) at Indianapolis Colts (12-0)
What Happened: Manning only threw one touchdown, but Addai tacked on two more on the ground to give the Colts a cushy lead in the fourth quarter. Indianapolis now has a 3 game lead in the AFC with 4 games to play, and will most likely be resting their starters in the coming weeks.
My Prediction: Colts will remain undefeated, with a comfortable lead in the 4th quarter and hold Chris Johnson below 100 yards.
Foresight in Hindsight: I was close, but Johnson ended up with 113 yards on the ground. The Colts did end his streak of 7 consecutive games with at least 125 yards though.
New Orleans Saints (12-0) at Washington Redskins (3-9)
What Happened: Who would have thought that this would be the game of the week? Most people expected a blowout (myself included). Instead, a missed 23 yard field goal by the find-a-way-to-lose Redskins are all that saved the Saints’ perfect season from going down the tube. In one of the craziest plays I’ve ever seen, Brees threw an interception that was returned to mid-field, only to be fumbled and returned for a touchdown. I’m sure that was a play Sean Peyton was just waiting to throw out there.
My Prediction: The only reason people will pick against the Saints is because they know they’ll most likely lose at least one game this season. But they’ll still go undefeated.
Foresight in Hindsight: Wouldn’t I have looked stupid if the Saints lost that game?
New England Patriots (7-5) vs. Miami Dolphins (6-6)
What Happened: The Patriots are not who we thought they were. The AFC East is now a 3-team race to the finish, as Miami booted a FG in the final minutes to hand the Patriots their first back-to-back losses in years. Oh how the almighty Patriots have fallen.
My Prediction: There’s no possible way that the Patriots will lose this one. Welker, Moss, and Brady will have a field day.
Foresight in Hindsight: Oops. Welker did end up having an awesome day, with 167 receiving yards, but it was all for naught, as the Dolphins played desperate and walked away with a huge victory. It’ll be fun watching the Patriots, Dolphins, and Jets fight out for the division crown.
San Diego Chargers (9-3) at Cleveland Browns (1-12)
What Happened: Tomlinson recovered an onside kick with 38 seconds left to seal the victory, but don’t be fooled. The game was won by 477 yards of Charger offense and only 1 punt. Cleveland was outmatched and outcoached, pretty much the story of their season.
My Prediction: The Chargers will win, but might struggle a little bit because of the cross-country flight.
Foresight in Hindsight: This game was closer in the point category than I’m sure the Chargers would have liked, but they won easily and will be a very scary team to face in the playoffs. They also proved that they can travel and win in cold conditions, even though it was against the Browns.
Dallas Cowboys (8-4) at New York Giants (7-5)
What Happened: The December curse continues for the Cowboys. They are notoriously bad in the final month of the season, and Sunday’s game didn’t help that stereotype. Romo was fantastic, throwing for almost 400 yards and 3 TDs with no interceptions, but it wasn’t enough. This was a game that they needed to win.
My Prediction: Dallas will continue their hot streak and take care of business, sealing the NFC East race.
Foresight in Hindsight: The Giants now sit a game back with four remaining, but control the head-to-head tie breaker by sweeping the Giants. The AFC and NFC East divisions will be fun to follow for the next month. Lets hope it comes down to the final game!
