Let’s face it. This has not been Tiger Woods’ month. Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably been bombarded by the news that Tiger has been unfaithful to his wife. And not just a little transgression, mind you, but a major scandal. A scandal so elaborate that it involves infidelity with 14 mistresses and counting.

Athletes are notorious for cheating, but Tiger Woods was America’s golden boy golfer. Since his start as a professional golfer, his image has been completely manufactured to appear as if he is the ultimate family man. And family men DO NOT cheat. Endorsements make up a huge portion of Tiger’s income. Since the scandal broke, Tiger has been forced to deal with the fall-out. He has already been dropped by Accenture, a global management service company that featured Woods prominently in its ads. Gillette also announced that they were going to phase Woods out of their campaign. The only endorser sticking around? Nike.

The worst part of the ordeal is that his wife, Elin Nordegren, and his family have been forced to endure public humiliation. The women involved with Tiger have had no shame in detailing all of his alleged exploits. Sexy text messages, intimate conversations, and emails from the golfer have all been released.

The latest from Elin’s camp is that she is taking their two kids and traveling to Sweden for the holidays while Tiger keeps a low profile. She has also been spotted without her wedding ring and fully plans to divorce Tiger. I guess those extra millions in the prenuptial agreement weren’t enough to curb her embarrassment.

The question is: What will happen with Tiger’s image? Will he be able to make a comeback and regain his position as America’s golden boy athlete?

Tiger has not been seen since his car accident at his Florida home a couple of weeks ago. One thing is for sure, whoever photographs him first is in for a hefty payday. The first picture of Woods is said to be worth millions.

I want to talk a bit about about people in the public eye. And I don’t really mean celebrities as much, but they do qualify. Mostly I’m going to talk about politicians.

I really do sympathize with people who live their lives in front of millions of people. Some, as we know, welcome it and even abuse it, but I think for the most part people want to go about their own lives and not worry about having every little thing they do and say scrutinized.

What inspired me to write this post is the outcry of South Carolina’s Governor Mark Sanford’s admission to having an affair. Now, I will admit that after hearing a little more of his story, he really does deserve to be in the centre of a media storm. More about that later.

I’m talking more about former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer or former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey. These guys did things in their private lives that became public and ruined their careers. Is that really fair? Should Jim McGreevey have to step down because of his sexual preference? Did Eliot Spitzer really have to give up his post because of hiring an escort on his own time?

I don’t think we give these guys enough credit. They have to have their game face on ALL the TIME. Apparently, even when they’re “off the clock”, someone is still watching their every moves. I believe that we should give these guys a break. They’re people too, make mistakes and have fetishes and preferences just like everyone else.

Oh so what happened to Sanford? Well, dude disappears for a few days without telling anyone, even his staff. He comes back, the story is that he was hiking on the Appelacian Trail. Turns out he was with his “lady friend” in Argentina. My opinion – I don’t care if he’s got one girlfriend or ten girlfriends (he is married, it’s important to note). Not my business, doesn’t effect his work. But he totally screwed his office by lying and now of course there’s also the point that he’s used public money to fund his trips to Argentina. I expect to hear of his resignation by the end of the month.
